Weathered Performances

Our form after the Christmas break hasn’t been great. We’ve hit a bad run, that began with a 3-2 defeat away at Leicester City, although we did well to fight back from 3-0 down.

This was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, a game packed with controversy which eventually saw us go down to 9 men within the first 15 minutes of the game.

Not forgetting the fact that we had to battle for 75 minutes with only 9 men on the pitch meant we showed some great team spirit to keep the scoreline respectable.

Following on from our second defeat was devastating 4-0 home defeat to Aston Villa, making it harder to take was the fact it was a local derby and the less said, the better!

A week later we played Cardiff City and I have no idea how we lost that game. It finished 2-0 in favour of the Welsh but we dominated the majority of the first half and for some reason we let our heads drop in the second half after failing to capitalise on our prominence.

Some good news for our dressing room came in the form of Callum Reilly and Eddy Gnahore making their first-team debuts in the FA Cup away at Sheffield United. This gave some of the first year Apprentices a chance to show what they can do and impress. An opportuntity also came for some second year Apprentices as they were selected for the mind-week reserve team fixture.

The snow has caused us a bit of bother this week because we’ve had at least 6 inches of snow. Friday and Saturday were days off after we had no Premier Academy League fixture to compete in, which meant we had traning scheduled for Sunday.

Late on Saturday night the snow fell onto the first team fixture at St. Andrews against Southampton and it soon became obvious that training was unlikely to go ahead the following morning.

We had our boots back on on Monday morning though albeit it in the indoor dome as the bad weather still continued.

The next game in our sights is away at Bristol City on Saturday and we are hoping that the snow finds somewhere else to harrass so we can get back to winning ways.

I’ll be back to update you next time and let you know how we got on (weather permitting!).
