I’ll start by saying that I’m glad to be writing this year’s blog. Sorry it’s a bit late, that’s because I’ve had a lot going on lately. But none the less, I’ve had a good pre-season, where my aim was to remain injury free and get as many games as I could under my belt.
We started of with a trip to Scotland, where we played Hearts, Hamilton, Hibs and a University team. We lost all four games which were against older oppositions. We learned a lot up there and we really bonded as a team, which was evident when we started the league brightly with a 2-1 win at Bristol City, which I was really pleased with as I also got on the score sheet!
It was always going to be a tough test as we flew in the early hours of the match day, and then had a long wait before the start of the game, but that didn’t stop the lads from putting on a brilliant performance.
We were held to a draw against MK Dons the following weekend at home, before our first defeat at the hands of Everton. They were a good side, physical and really positive going forward. We were held to another draw against West Brom at home and believe it or not another draw this weekend against Manchester City.
They were a lively side and I thought we played really well, put them under pressure and they found it really difficult to break us down. We had numerous occasions to win the game ourselves.
Training we’ve been mainly working on possession, and defensive work. We’ve also done some attacking work along with some 1v1, and 2v2. We’ve been doing quite a lot of endurance work, along with the yo-yo test.
My main target this year is to break into the Reserve team, so I was happy to have played for them against Gateshead in a friendly and against Liverpool in the Reserve league, which ended in draw.
Its fair to say we’ve drawn a few games so far.
