Trio In Mix For Goal Of The Year

Three graduates of the ASE programme are among a short-list of ten players for the Mitre Goal of the Year for the 2010–11 season.

Lewis McGugan (Nottingham Forest), Gareth Evans (Bradford City) and Dean Cox (Leyton Orient) feature in the competition run by Soccer AM and The Football League.

While McGugan started his career at Forest before making his mark in their first-team both Evans and Cox have moved away from the Clubs they began professional football with as 16 year old Apprentices.

Evans was released by Crewe Alexandra and played in LFE’s 2007 Assessment Trials before joining Macclesfield Town and then the Bantams. Cox came through the ASE programme at Brighton & Hove Albion before moving to Leyton Orient last summer.

The trio will compete with goals from the likes of Adam Hamill (Barnsley, now Wolves), Ricky Lambert (Southampton) and John Bostock (Hull City).
