Match: Stoke City Vs Everton
We started the game brightly and even had a shout for a penalty in the first ten minutes when winger Jimmy Phillips was absolutely wiped out in the penalty area but the referee insisted that the Everton defender had got the ball.
As you can imagine this didn’t go down very well with the rest of our team. To compound matters Everton then took the lead when our defence failed to clear the ball from a dangerous area. Some not so Beckenbauer style player led to one of our defenders losing possession as he attempted to dribble out of danger but an Everton’s forward picked up the ball and finished well into the bottom corner.
The goal changed the game and it opened up and became a very end-to-end affair with neither team keeping hold of the ball for long. In the second half the game continued to be very scrappy and neither side looked like they were going to score but some sloppy defending and lack of communication in our defence allowed Everton to get the all important second and kill the game off for us. This defeat was particularly hard for us all to take.
Everton were no better than us certainly in terms of ability and frustratingly we all believe that we should have done better and at least got something out of the game.
