Rioch Focusing On Result

Coventry City take on Midlands rivals Leicester City tonight in the FA Youth Cup third round at the Ricoh Arena with Academy Manager Gregor Rioch admitting that it is all about the result.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Rioch said;

“You have to find a balance between results and the development of these lads so while we try and win every game we play in the league, sometimes the boys’ development has to take a precedent.”

“But the FA Youth Cup is a bit different to the league in that it is a knockout competition and we will always go out and look to get the right result.”

The size of the task facing the Sky Blues is not lost on Rioch, who is well aware of the Foxes barnstorming start to the league season.

“To have 11 wins and one draw from you first 12 games is going to make you the favourite and Steve Beaglehole has done a fantastic job with the young players at Leicester.”

“But I have every faith that our boys will stand up to the task ahead and we are relishing the chance to play winning football against a side we have already played once this year so we will have an idea of what to expect.”

“It’s a local derby so it will add spice to the fixture both for the players and the fans so I would expect a very good game for the spectators.”
