Oxford United Apprentices Make Headlines

Oxford United

Oxford United’s Apprentices recently made headlines in the local newspaper after nine of the 2005 cohort achieved full ASE frameworks.

The Oxford Mail article celebrated their success and commended the Club’s Youth Development Scheme.

The nine successful achievers were Luke Bennett, Tom Franklin, David Malloy, Daniel Meade, Gareth Tucker, Ben Weedon, Chris Weedon, Andrew Younie and Jerome Anderson.

Two have chosen to further their studies at university, two have moved on to other Clubs and one is hoping to become a football coach. Ben Weedon, Luke Bennett and David Malloy were awarded one-year contracts with the U’s.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail Les Taylor, United’s Youth Development Officer, said:

“We make sure the lads work hard on the education side of things. Those qualifications are certainly going to help the boys in the future and this year’s scholars will be working hard to try and better those results.”
