Lee Clark praised “magnificent” Mark Waddington after Blackpool fell to a 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Aston Villa.
Handed his full debut, Waddington who is a second year apprentice, excelled in the middle of the park for the Seasiders, before he was replaced fellow youngster Dom Telford in injury time, as Clark’s team searched for a leveller to Christian Benteke’s 88th-minute goal.
“Mark was magnificent,” said Clark.
“I think he showed against Premier League players that he has a big future. We’ll need the youngsters and all the players in the squad between now and the end of the season.
“We didn’t deserve to lose, without a shadow of a doubt. I was delighted with the lads’ performance. I don’t know what’s happened at this club but we just aren’t getting the rub of the green,” added Clark.
