Ince Lauds Baldock

Sam Baldock

Milton Keynes Dons Boss Paul Ince likened striker Sam Baldock to Michael Owen after his double helped MK Dons into the Southern Section semi-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The 20 year old striker, who is a product of the Club’s Youth system capitalised on a rare start to net his first goals of the season after Aaron Wilbraham’s early opener, while Steve Guinan pulled a goal back for Northampton as MK Dons ran out 3-1 winners.

And Ince was keen to give his young striker the recognition he feels he deserves, he said:

“Sam reminds me of Michael Owen, when he’s one-on-one you know he’s going to score. And I was confident he would score his penalty too – it would have been a surprise if he had missed.”

“He took both his chances well and he made some mature runs – a couple of years ago he was making silly runs.”

Baldock will now hope his double strike will earn him the chance to feature for the Dons when they face fellow promotion contenders Charlton Athletic at the Valley on Saturday.
