Harris Hails Pompey’s Learning Curve After Vitesse Victory

Portsmouth Under 18 coach Mikey Harris has hailed his players capacity to learn and quickly and adapt during their pre-season tour to the Netherlands.

Pompey were easily beaten 3-0 last Wednesday by a stronger Twente side but Harris’s team responded with a 2-1 victory over Vitesse Arnhem at the weekend to record their first win on tour.

Speaking to LFETV after the game Harris said:

“Everyone knows at this level it’s about developing the players and we talked a lot about what we learnt from the first game and we asked them to apply certain things in this game and they did that very well.

“The win is very nice for the boys and a by product of the work we’ve done in the first few days. I was very pleased with the fitness we finished the game very strongly and we talked about identifying how to deal with their style.”

“We were keen to press them as high as possible and try and force them to do something they don’t want to do and we did that well which allowed us to get some momentum.”

“I was very impressed by Vitesse and there technique and ability to handle the ball in tight situations and bravery to play out from the back is very nice to see – it’s a fantastic set-up and I’ve enjoyed every minute we’ve been here,” added Harris
