Stanley Trust Learners Visit Italy

A number of students from the Accrington Stanley Community Trust recently flew out to southern Italy for a work experience trip.

13 students and two members of staff made their way to Salerno where they took part in a coaching placement at a local youth football club.

The students, who are all currently on the LFE Study Programme at Accrington were given the opportunity to observe coaches and compare coaching styles and methodologies used, further adding to the knowledge they have gathered through their course studies.

Alongside their work placement, the students were also afforded time to take in some of the Italian culture, visiting Naples, Rome and Pompeii. They also had the chance to watch Serie A side U.S. Salernitana 1919. On top of all this, they also attended a Q&A with the local referee’s association.

Mark Whalley, Head of Education & Employability at the Accrington Stanley Community Trust, said: “This was an invaluable experience that our students will remember fondly for years to come. The experience they gained in Italy was fantastic and to observe and learn different coaching styles and methods will put them in good stead for the future. As well as the coaching experience, the trip was also a great life experience for these students and it was one they all embraced fully.”
