Bender Enters Record Books

Colchester United Apprentice, Tom Bender became the second youngest player ever to represent the U’s on Saturday.

The 16 year old was introduced as a late substitute in the 2-0 win against Hartlepool United on Saturday and, in appearing, became the second youngest player ever to represent the Club.

Bender made his debut at 16 years, 243 days – just 26 days older than the U’s youngest ever debutant.

The youngest was another defender, Lindsay Smith, who made his debut away to Grimsby Town in 1971 aged 16 years 217 days.
