Connor Wickham hit his first senior hat-trick on Tuesday as Ipswich Town demolished Doncaster Rovers 6-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Wickham scored one before the break before adding a second half double to help Ipswich to their best result since November 2007 when they beat Bristol City by the same scoreline.
Meanwhile, Watford came from two down at home to Preston North End to grab a point after the half-time introduction of Matt Whichelow and Adam Thompson.
Whichelow, who completed his Apprenticeship in the summer converted Stephen McGinn’s lay-off with a 20-yard strike to bring the Hornets back in to the game on 69 minutes.
Second year Apprentice Thompson completed the comeback 11 minutes from time when steering the ball home from close range after North End defence had failed to deal with a long ball.
Both Ipswich and Watford will now hope to make late assaults on the Championship play-off positions.
