Wanderers See Off Malawi

Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe Wanderers’ Under-17 side claimed a major scalp earlier this week when they beat Malawi Under-17’s 1-0 at Bisham Abbey.

Malawi are one of a record five African nations to have qualified for this month’s U17 World Cup in Nigeria and were in England as part of their preparations for the competition.

First-year Apprentice Ryan Ware’s stunning 20-yard volley proved to be the difference between the two sides, but it could have been worse for Malawi had Ollie Taylor’s late effort not come back off the crossbar.

Speaking to the Club’s official website, Head of Youth Richard Dobson said:

“It was good for our boys to see the African style of football. They were very complimentary towards us after the match and they want the two sides to keep in contact.”
