Waddock Keen To Give Youth A Chance

Wycombe Wanderers Manager Gary Waddock will continue to give youth a chance after seeing Matt Phillips depart for Blackpool last week.

The 19 year old winger, who came through the Chairboys Youth ranks, made a £325,000 switch to Blackpool ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

And Waddock is keen to see some of his promising young players now move into the first-team picture, he said:

“There’s some good young players here. Matty was given an opportunity and he’s gone on to the Premier League. It would be nice in a few years to have one or two doing the same thing.”

The wide-man’s departure leaves Waddock with one less option on the flanks, but the Blues boss hopes the Club’s youngsters can compete with wingers Gareth Ainsworth and Kevin Betsy.

“We’ve got some talented young players coming through, with Gaz and Bets, they can give us the width, but we’ve got some good young players and it possibly gives them an opportunity,” he added.
