United Close In On Zaha

Manchester United and Crystal Palace will reportedly hold further talks over the transfer of Wilfried Zaha in the next 24 hours after Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger insisted that his club “were never in for Zaha,” at a press conference earlier today.

Wenger admitted that his club had been “looking at” the winger but added: “I don’t know if he will go to Man United. If he goes to Man United, good luck to him.”

Sir Alex Ferguson remained behind as his squad travelled to Qatar on Sunday for a short training camp.

It is understood that United are willing to pay around £12m for Zaha and will then loan him back to the Championship club for the rest of the season.

Both clubs have made no comment on a proposed deal for the 20-year-old wide-man who won his first England cap against Sweden in November.

However, it is thought that a deal could be announced by the end of this week for the player who was named as The Football League’s Young Player of the Year last season.

Zaha, who came through Palace’s youth set up and made his first-team debut against Cardiff while still an Apprentice, has scored 15 goals in 124 appearances for the Eagles.
