Training and Development Courses for Club Youth Staff

LFE will be delivering two training courses in February for youth staff on behalf of Football League clubs. A letter detailing the courses has been sent out to all clubs along with reply forms which should be returned to LFE as soon as possible.

Course No. 1 – Expert Witness Training (L20)

Following the highly successful completion of the recent L20 course for coaching staff it has been decided to run an additional course for the small number of clubs which have experienced staff changes in 2006 and clubs that wish to train and qualify club staff to act as expert witnessess. Places will be limited to 20.

Clubs that wish to request more than one place may do so. In such cases the cost will be £450 plus VAT per candidate.

Aims of the course

Expert Witness Training takes coaches/club staff through the steps of how to plan, observe, give feedback and record what they have seen in the logbook and is currently the minimum qualification required by technical/coaching staff to assess the apprentices logbook.

Who should attend

This course is aimed primarily at Football League club technical/coaching staff/support staff which are involved with the assessment of young full time apprenticeship players.

When does the course take place and where.

  • Initial Training – Monday 5th February 2007 at Stoke city Football Club.
  • Progress Meeting – To be held within six weeks of the Initial Training day. Group to negotiate date and venue with tutor on Initial Training day.
  • Final Meeting – Submission of portfolio of evidence date to be negotiated. Group to negotiate date and venue with tutor on Progress Meeting day.

Places for this course are limited to 20. Priority will be given to those clubs which do not have a qualified L20 assessor, with the remaining places being allocated on a first come – first served basis.

Please complete the reply form No. 1 Expert Witness Training and return it to LFE by Wednesday 31st January 2007.

Course details together with an itinerary for the Expert Witness Training will be forwarded to successful applicants upon receipt of a completed application form.

Course No. 2 – Training for Club Technical Staff/Education Staff/Tutor Supervisors (Assessors Award A1)

Aims of the course

The role of the Assessor is an important one and the Assessors Award (A1) course outlines the four key aspects of the role.

  • Developing plans with candidates for assessing competence.
  • Judging evidence against criteria to make assessment decisions.
  • Providing feedback and support to candidates on assessment decisions.
  • Contributing to the internal quality assurance process.

Who should attend

This course is aimed primarily at Football League technical staff that wish to upgrade their L20 qualification to an A1, club/college staff which are currently acting as unqualified tutor supervisors or wish to be involved with the assessment of young full time apprenticeship players, i.e. full time Education and Welfare Officers, and club members of staff who wish to act as work-based assessors in the future.

When does the course take place and where.

  • Initial Training – Tuesday 6th February 2007 at Stoke City Football Club.
  • Progress Meeting – To be held within four weeks of the initial assessment. Group to negotiate date with tutor in Initial Training day.
  • Final Meeting – Submission of portfolio of evidence date to be negotiated. Group to negotiate date with tutor on Progress Meeting day.

Places on this course are limited to one per club. Priority will be given to coaching staff who wish to upgrade their L20 Expert Witness qualification to A1 and clubs that do not have a qualified A1 Assessor, with the remaining places being allocated on a first come – first served basis.

Clubs that wish to request more than one place may do so. In such cases the cost will be £450 plus VAT per candidate.

Please complete the reply form No. 2 – Assessors Award A1 and return it to LFE by Wednesday 31st January 2007.
