Thompson Trial With United

Stockport County

Stockport County defender and recent ASE graduate Josh Thompson has confirmed he had a trial at Manchester United last season.

In May SkySports.com revealed United invited Thompson for a trial prior to their UEFA Champions League final clash with Barcelona.

The highly rated defender has also been the subject of interest from Peterborough. Posh boss Darren Ferguson hopes to beat his father Sir Alex to the signing of Thompson.

However, the 18 year old is focused on life at Edgeley Park and is not taking any notice of the speculation.

Speaking to the Club’s official website, he said:

“I’m aware of what I see in the papers but I just want to get here, go through pre-season and work as hard as I can and get fit, concentrate on my football and just let everything else do what it wants to do.”

Thompson admitted the chance to train with Premier League champions United was one of the best experiences of his life,

“It was amazing, you ask anyone my age and they dream to go and train with the best players in the world and to train with them for two days was great. It was one of the best experiences in football you could get.”
