Watford’s 19 year old striker Marvin Sordell has been named September’s Young Player of the Month for the nPower Football League in The Times newspaper’s football supplement, ‘The Game’.
The award comes after the forward registered four goals from five Championship matches including a brace against Doncaster Rovers and goals in impressive victories over Bristol City and Millwall.
Sordell who has come through the Club’s Apprenticeship programme, said:
“It’s been a great start to the season for me and this is a great achievement. Hopefully I will push on and score more goals and get more points for the team.”
“I went away in the summer and worked really hard so this season I could be ready to challenge for a place in the team. And luckily I’ve done well enough to play and have scored a few goals along the way.”
Watford Manager, Malky Mackay said:
“Marvin has really kicked on from the first day of pre-season, to the point that he started on the opening night against Norwich.”
“His confidence has gone sky high from that point and he’s learning every day – there’s still a long way to go but the fact that he’s scoring goals at this level really is something at such a young age.”
The Young Player of the Month accolade is awarded by The Football League to the young player who has made the most significant contribution and impact in first team football.
To be eligible the player must be either under 21 years of age or be playing in the season during which he turns 21.
