Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies has undergone a cartilage operation and could be out for up to two months.
The 20 year old, who has come through the Club’s Youth ranks picked up the injury towards the end of Town’s 4-2 win at Walsall last Saturday.
Smithies was replaced by Ian Bennett during Tuesday night’s 4-0 defeat at Carlisle United but despite the result Manager Lee Clark is comfortable with Bennett stepping in to the firing line.
“We’ve seen what Ian Bennett can do and he couldn’t have done anything for the goals,” said Clark.
“I am not worried about losing Alex (Smithies) as I know Ian Bennett will deputise excellently as he has done previously this season. The answer is not to keep delving into the transfer market, these players are good enough to achieve what we set out to do, so my job is to now work with them and produce a good result on Saturday.”
