Highly-rated Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies is happy to stay with the Terriers, despite interest from Premier League suitors.
A number of Premier League clubs are thought to be tracking Smithies with the young goalkeeper impressing with his performances at the Galpharm Stadium this season.
With Stoke City thought to be monitoring his progress, the player’s advisor, Tony Coton, insists Smithies is happy to continue learning his trade at the League One outfit.
“Alex is very happy at Huddersfield,” Coton told skysports.com. “He is a local lad and he is learning his trade.”
“I think the link with Stoke came about after I was seen at a Huddersfield match with (Stoke assistant manager) Peter Reid, but I think people were jumping to conclusions.”
“Peter is a good friend of mine and as we were going to the same match we decided to go together.”
“I have no doubt Alex will play at the highest level at some point in his career as he is a top talent, but all he is focusing on at the minute is playing for Huddersfield and continuing his education in the game.”
