Shrewsbury Town 0 – 2 FC Volendam

Shrewsbury Town fell to defeat in the second game of their Dutch tour with a 2-0 loss to FC Volendam.

The Shrews were unable to continue where they left off having beaten German team MSV Duisburg in their opening fixture of the trip. Here they were undone by two early goals in each half.

It took the Dutch hosts just four minutes to go in front when Darryl Baly played a pinpoint long ball from his own half over the top of the Shrewsbury backline to find the run of Gani Meholli, who calmly slotted the ball into the net with just the keeper to beat.

The visitors replied well and were almost back on level terms, but fortune did not favour them as they struck the post and bar from two set pieces.

Half-time substitute Derry John Murkin announced his arrival in the game two minutes after his introduction as he got his name on the scoresheet with a solo effort to double Volendam’s lead.

And the young Shrews were unable to muster a fightback with Volendam holding them off to secure a routine victory.
