Rovers Youngsters Remain As Back-Up

Joe Collister

Tranmere Rovers Caretaker-Manager Les Parry has secured the services of Liverpool goalkeeper David Martin on a one-month loan deal ahead of Saturday’s game with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Parry had sought to recruit an experienced No.1 following Luke Daniels’ dismissal during Monday’s 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Stockport County.

2nd-year Apprentice Joe Collister will remain as back-up with Parry keen to keep youngsters Collister and 16 year old Andy Coughlin out of the firing line.

The physio-cum-caretaker boss said:

“Joe is going to be an excellent keeper but he’s 17, and there’s the knock on effect that we’d end up with young Andy Coughlin on the bench who is just 16.

“If anything happened the pressure on him would’ve be immense, so that’s why I looked at an experienced keeper.”
