Pompey Youngster Focuses On Football

Portsmouth defender Luke Wilkinson has admitted that he is pleased to be away from the financial uncertainties at Fratton Park as he starts a loan with Northampton Town.

The 19 year old, who signed for Portsmouth in the summer after completing his Apprenticeship programme at Bristol City, is looking forward to once again focussing on his football after a loan spell was agreed at Sixfields.

The youngster who has acknowledged that the continuing financial problems on the south coast have had a unsettling effect on playing staff at Pompey is now determined to concentrate on football at the Cobblers. He said:

“It is good to be away getting some football. Everyone at the club is down with what is going on off the field and it is hard.”

“The players are trying to keep each other going on the training pitch but everyone is worried about when they are going to get paid each month which is a bit of a joke.”

“I have been paid every month but it’s been late. But if the club are struggling for money there’s not a lot you can do about it.”

“It’s different when you are a young player starting out as I need the money, I’m not a millionaire, but it shouldn’t affect your motivation.”
