Newcastle United have emerged as favourites to sign MK Dons youngster Dele Alli after manager Karl Robinson confirmed their interest in him, report the Daily Telegraph.
While Robinson is hoping to retain Alli’s services until the end of the current campaign, his public admission that Newcastle are interested in the highly rated midfielder may prompt immediate action.
Alli who made his MK Dons debut as a 16-year-old first year apprentice, has been a mainstay in the Dons team for the last two years. He has been widely tipped to play in the top flight after excelling in League One and representing England at a variety of youth levels.
Newcastle have not contacted MK Dons directly, but Robinson hinted they have been in touch with the player’s representatives.
“There has been a lot of talk about Dele and Newcastle – and I don’t think it’s paper talk,” said Robinson. “I think it’s a bit more than that, but it’s nothing we’ve heard about yet.”
