Myrie-Williams Deal Collapses

Oxford United’s deal for winger Jennison Myrie-Williams has collapsed after the 22 year old’s international clearance was refused.

Myrie-Williams, who signed for the Club on Tuesday, is unable to join the U’s having already been under contract with St Johnstone and Dundee United this term.

“Regrettably the player will be unable to join us this season,” U’s chairman Kelvin Thomas told the Club website.

“There is not much we can do as a Club, as the rules are the rules.”

Under Fifa regulations a player cannot play for more than two permanent Clubs in a season.

Thomas added: “The English Football Association could not register Myrie-Williams as they are bound by Fifa regulations. Similarly the Football League cannot register him to play for us as international clearance could not be granted,” added Thomas.

The winger, who began his career at Bristol City had loan spells at Tranmere, Carlisle, Hereford and Cheltenham before joining Dundee United, made a substitute appearance for the Terrors in their 1-0 win over St Mirren in August.

He then signed a professional contract with St Johnstone in September but became a free agent after leaving McDiarmid Park earlier this month.

“Apparently he came on for just 15 minutes with Dundee United, which does seem a little harsh on the lad,” said Thomas.

“It would have been ok if the boy had been on loan at one of the Clubs, but as he actually signed a professional contract with both of them it has caused a problem.”
