Despite an early set-back Grimsby Town fought back to claim victory in the Puma Youth Alliance League Cup with a win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Tuesday night.
Josh Parker’s solo effort gave the home side a dream start with just six minutes on the clock, but the Mariners went in level at half time when Keil Thompson grabbed an equaliser three minutes before the break.
Grimsby took the lead on 57 minutes through Danny Freeman, his 22nd goal of the season, and held on to take the title.
Their job was made easier just after the hour mark when the hosts were reduced to ten men. Luke Olley was shown a straight red card and given his marching orders in front of a 1,000 strong crowd.
