Latics Striker Tips U’s To Challenge

Deane Smalley

Oldham Athletic Striker Deane Smalley believes Colchester United could emerge as one of the leading contenders for promotion this season.

The Latics host the Essex outfit on Saturday and will hope to return to winning ways having slipped to three consecutive defeats.

Smalley, who has just returned from injury is wary of the threat posed by Aidy Boothroyd’s men and feels they could play a major part in the promotion shakedown, come May.

Smalley said:

“I think when you go through all the contenders then obviously you’ve got to look at the likes of Leeds, Charlton, MK Dons and Huddersfield.”

“But I think Colchester are a very good side and can see them being right up there at the end of the season.”

“They’ve got some excellent players and a manager with a proven track record, so we know it’s going to be a tough game on Saturday.”
