Kinder Planning Ahead

Carlisle United’s Head of Youth Eric Kinder has recruited his first Apprenticeship signing for the 2010-11 campaign with the capture Sunderland-born forward Mark Beck.

Beck, 15 and still a schoolboy at the moment, is a regular with the Durham County side but will join the Cumbrians Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme in the summer.

Speaking to the Club’s official website, Kinder said:

“It’s a strange one this one, because we received a call from someone I know in the North East who asked me to go and watch Durham play a couple of games.”

“We were there to watch another player who had been recommended to us. David Wilkes went along and he came back with a glowing report on the striker.”

“David went to watch him again the following week and he had another really good game. We invited him over for a trial and he impressed everybody straight away.”

“He’s a very tall lad, 6ft 4 inches in height, but he holds himself really well and he looks a real handful. I’ve known David for over three years now and I’ve never known him to get as excited about an under 16 player as he has over this one. That’s a very good sign and, if it works for out us, then all credit will go to him for spotting the potential.”

“He will continue to play for his Club side and for Durham at the moment and we all look forward to working with him next year.”
