Crewe Alexandra midfielder James Bailey is a major doubt for the club’s first away trip of the season at Grimsby Town this weekend.
The midfielder was withdrawn at half-time on Tuesday evening during The Railwaymen’s 1 – 2 Carling Cup defeat against Blackpool.
The 20 year old Academy graduate impressed on his recall to the first eleven and was the stand out performer during the opening 45 minutes against The Seasiders.
The club will be hoping that the injury is not a reoccurrence of the hip injury that ruled him out for much of the second half of last season. The youngster’s absence for Saturdays league encounter at Blundell Park would be a blow for Gudjon Thordarson who was full of praise for his young midfielder.
Thordarson told the club’s official web-site:
“James did very well for us and took himself forward in a positive manner. Unfortunately, he looks as though he has injured his hip and groin again and that is a blow for us.”
“We will have to assess how he is over the next couple of days but he is certainly doubtful for the weekend.”
