Gradi Shows Support For Shelley

Crewe Alexandra Manager Dario Gradi has pledged to support young defender Danny Shelley after a section of supporters booed the player during his side’s 1-1 draw with Lincoln City at the weekend.

Shelley, 20, was substituted during the draw which all but ended Alex’s promotion hopes, and was heckled by fans as he left the pitch.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, Gradi said:

“That’s society these days, it’s very selfish.”

“He was having a hard time but he was trying his best, if that wasn’t good enough on the day, so be it.”

“To be fair when Danny came off he got boos but he got some accolades as well, there were some fair-minded people there.”

The 69-year-old added:

“He’s got ability and we’ll continue to work with it.”

Crewe are 13th in League Two, nine points off a play-off place with four games to play.
