Southend United youngster Kane Ferdinand has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for the Under-19 European Championships.
The competition takes place in Romania from 20 July and the squad will hold a training camp in Italy next week.
Ferdinand who is still only 18 years-old broke in to the Southend first-team last year while still a second year Apprentice making 22 appearances for The Shrimpers.
The midfielder will now miss most of Southend’s pre-season schedule to take part in the tournament.
The Republic of Ireland begin their campaign against Greece on the opening day, before further group games against the Czech Republic and hosts Romania.
