FA Youth Cup Results Round Up

Josh Ollerenshaw, Oldham Athletic

As the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup comes to a conclusion Millwall ensured their progress to the Fourth Round with an impressive 3 – 1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on an ice cold night at Hillsborough.

Kiernan Mason maintained his record of scoring in every round as Millwall’s youngsters claimed a notable success on their travels.

Goals from Mason, John Marquis and own goal in reply to Tom Connelly’s opener for Wednesday booked the Lions a Fourth Round trip to Plymouth Argyle.

Earlier in the week Oldham Athletic had fallen victim to a Kazenga LuaLua double as they were narrowly beaten 2 – 1 at St James Park.

Extra-time had looked likely after Ryan Brooke had levelled for the Latics after a LuaLua opener. But the younger brother of the former Colchester, Newcastle and Portsmouth player Tresor Lomana LuaLua latched onto a flicked header and lifted the ball over the on-rushing Josh Ollerenshaw (pictured above) to see the Magpies through to the next round.

Walsall pulled off a remarkable result at Oakwell to beat Barnsley 3 – 2 and both Charlton’s and Crewe’s youngsters provided some much needed cheer at their Clubs with hard fought victories over Blackburn Rovers and Carlisle United respectively.

There were also wins for Watford, Tranmere and Wolves, while Southampton and Queens Park Rangers also progress after clinching extra-time victories against Derby County and Bristol City respectively.
