Southend United’s U18s boss Ricky Duncan is that the clubs youngsters will finally get the chance to play their FA Youth Cup third round tie against Coventry City tonight.
The Shrimpers had originally planned to play the game nearly a month ago but the game fell victim to the weather minutes before it was scheduled to kick-off.
Both sides were frustrated by that decision but Duncan is keen to build on his side’s 3-1 league win against Aldershot Town last Saturday.
“I think everybody was very disappointed that the previous match was postponed,” said United’s Head of Youth.
“It was a late, late decision; both sides were on the pitch ready to kick-off and both teams felt the conditions were playable.”
“Understandably Coventry City were upset as they had come a long way for the match and we had obviously prepared as if the game was going ahead too.”
The winners of tonight’s third round tie face an away trip to Derby County in round four of the competition.
Kick-off at Roots Hall tonight is at 7.30pm. Only the East Stand Green and Blacks are open for this encounter with admission £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
