Curran Signs For Carlisle

Craig Curran has rejected the chance to stay at Tranmere Rovers and instead signed for League One rivals Carlisle United.

The 20 year old forward, who came through Tranmere’s Youth system, made 111 first team appearances and scored 16 goals while at Prenton Park.

Curran who first broke in to the Rovers first-team during the 2006-07 season as an Apprentice, was expected to achieve big things at Rovers after scoring a 31 minute hat-trick against Brentford on his league debut during the final game of that campaign.

However, the youngster has since spent much of his time as a wide-man or wide-forward with his pace and hard-running style being seen as key to the benefit of the team.

Last season Curran played an integral role for the Club – as Tranmere climbed away from the foot of the table to secure their League One status under Les Parry.

Curran will now look to pastures new and Carlisle Manager Gregg Abbott has indicated that his new signing will be given a chance to shine in his preferred central striking role.
