One student who will be looking forward to hitting the books again this term is Mansfield Town Apprentice Conor Higginson, who received two prizes at West Nottinghamshire College’s annual Student Celebration of Achievement awards.
The ceremony took place at Mansfield Civic Centre at the end of the College year. Over 50 awards were presented to students including the Principal’s Special Recognition Awards, Apprentice of the Year and the Outstanding Achievement Award.
Conor was awarded the Student of the Year accolade from the Sport and Leisure department plus the Principal’s Special Recognition Award. He said:
“I was overwhelmed to receive a Special Recognition Award presented by the Principal of the College. I’d picked up an award from the Sport and Leisure Department but to beat of competition from full time students was a fantastic surprise.”
West Notts College also praised the 17 year old striker for his achievements;
“Conor’s continued success in all that he applies himself to deserves to be recognised. As well as gaining high marks in his BTEC units he’s also completed the first year of his NVQ workbook and passed his Level 2 Football Coaching qualification. On top of this, Conor trains regularly with the senior squad after breaking into the Mansfield Town first team.”
Conor penned a 3-year contract with the Club towards the end of last season and made his first team bow away to Northwich Victoria in April.
