During his 3 years at Stoke City FC Chris completed the BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, the Level 2 Coaching Certificate and, on the advice of the club and LFE, he also re-sat his GCSE English exam.

Unfortunately, Chris was forced to leave the club in 2004 after breaking his leg in a reserve game. However, he has used the qualifications attained during his apprenticeship to gain a place on a teacher training course at Crewe & Alsager College and is also employed Stoke City FC as a coach for the under-10 Academy players.

Chris says,

“When I joined the club I just thought I was going to be a professional footballer and didn’t want to think about qualifications. Then I broke my leg! I’m so grateful for the support I received from Stoke City FC and LFE throughout my apprenticeship. Without their guidance I wouldn’t be where I am today, at university and in a job that I love.”
