Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says that young defender Sam Byram may need corrective surgery to overcome a hip injury.
Byram, who was the club’s player of the year last season in his first as a professional, was ruled out of Leeds’ opening day victory over Brighton with the problem.
The 19-year-old right back has not played since April and was forced to withdraw from the England Under-20s squad during the summer due to the injury.
“He’s had an injection and he’s resting at the moment,” said McDermott. “It might be that he needs an operation but we don’t know at this stage. We’ll see and we’ll do what is best.”
