Brewster Injury Mars Oldham Cup Win

A serious injury to Oldham Athletic’s teenage midfielder Michael Brewster overshadowed the Latics 2-1 win over Burnley in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup on Tuesday.

Goals from Ben Grant and substitute Emile Tansinda earned Tony Philliskirk’s men a hard fought 2-1 victory but their joy was tempered by the confirmation, that 17-year-old Brewster had fractured the fibula in his left leg during the opening minutes of the match at Burnley’s Gawthorpe Training Ground.

The youngster was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital by ambulance where an x-ray revealed the seriousness of the injury.

Brewster is to have further checks to discover the severity of the injury and to determine if surgery is needed.
