Barron Brings In Young Guns

Hartlepool United caretaker boss Micky Barron has said he made the right move by bringing youth-team talents Jack Baldwin and Luke James into the club’s first-team.

18 year-old defender Baldwin and 17 year-old midfielder, James made their debuts for Pool in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Colchester United.

“None of them showed any signs of nerves,” Barron told BBC Tees.

“We have to be careful with them, but I thought it was the right time to put them in the team.”

He continued: “If you ask the kids if they want to play in a struggling team, or not play in the team, they’d rather play.

“I think it’s good to have the kids around. They don’t worry about things. They just do what you ask them to do and get on and play their football.”

Baldwin started at centre-back alongside captain Sam Collins, while James impressed after he was introduced for James Brown at half-time.

“Jack’s been terrific since he’s come to the club,” Barron added.

“He wants to learn. He’s always asking questions and wanting to do more on the training ground.

“Luke is a breath of fresh air. He’s a talent that I haven’t seen for a long time – someone who can naturally come on and play, at such a high level as well.

“It was nice to see them today. It would have been nice to see them in a winning team but they both handled themselves really well.”
