Apprentice of the Year Awards 2007/08

The third annual Football League Awards will be taking place on Sunday 2nd March 2008 at the London Hilton, Park Lane. The awards celebrate all that’s great about League Football – both on and off the pitch.

LFE actively seeks to celebrate the success of Apprentices, along with the hard work that Clubs put in to achieving success across both the football and educational elements of the Apprenticeship programme.

The Apprentice of the Year award is one of the best ways to recognise these combined achievements. LFE is therefore very proud to be supplying £2,500 prize money to the League One and League Two Clubs who produce the Apprentice of the Year 2007/08 winners within these leagues. This money will be added to any Development Fund monies the Club earns.

Now in its third year, the two previous League One and League Two winners continue to make excellent football and educational progress. Joe Skarz lifted the 2006/07 League One award for his success at Huddersfield Town F.C. and this season has cemented his position in the first team. Joe has appeared in each of Huddersfield’s 15 league games this season and also lived up to his academic potential by achieving the full ASE framework in the summer of 2007.

Rochdale F.C. developed last year’s League Two Apprentice of the year winner, Joe Thompson (pictured left) who has also achieved his full ASE framework. Joe has gained good press for his performances this year, especially against Hartlepool United F.C. and has also featured in a number of publications promoting the benefits of the ASE programme.

Not only did these two players receive the recognition of the award they also each received holiday vouchers worth £1000. The same recognition and prizes await the 2007/08 winners.

The shortlist of players will be announced in mid January 2008, with the two winners being announced and presented with their prizes at the prestigious Football League awards ceremony in London on the 2nd March 2008.

The winning players will be picked from nominations made by clubs by a judging panel that will include representatives from The Football League and The PFA, as well as guests from the media.
