LFE’s Goal of the Month competition returns with eight of the best efforts from across the Academy leagues during January.
The first winner of 2019 will join Bolton Wanderers pair Luca Connell and Callum King-Harmes, Bradley Webb (Bristol City), Owen James (Oxford United) and Lewis Farmer (Sheffield Wednesday) in LFE’s 2018-19 Goal of the Season contest.
The first strike on the list comes from Cambridge United first-year apprentice Jake Battersby, who unleashed a venomous drive on the volley that rifled into the roof of the net.
Rochdale’s Fabio Tavares applied a terrific finish to pick out the top corner after carrying the ball towards the area from the left flank, while a magnificent team move from Norwich City Under-18s ended with Spencer Keller hitting the back of the net.
England Under-17s starlet Joe Gelhardt features for the second time this season after finding the top corner with pinpoint accuracy following an impressive solo run from the halfway line in Wigan Athletic’s FA Youth Cup rout of Hull City.
Elsewhere, Peterborough United’s Oli Shackleton makes the cut for his powerful hit from range, while Rieves Boocock’s emphatic strike for Doncaster Rovers Under-18s puts him in the Goal of the Month running for the third time.
AFC Wimbledon’s David Fisher produced a superb finish after expertly bringing down a high cross into the penalty area. Republic of Ireland youth international Adam O’Reilly wraps things up as he hit the target with a curling shot from distance after some slick build-up play from Preston North End Under-18s.
