Knill Reveals Thompson Disappointment

Bury Manager Alan Knill has revealed his disappointment after releasing defender David Thompson after his short term contract came to an end.

The youngster who came through the Club’s Apprenticeship programme was given a six month contract in the summer.

However, Knill has taken the decision not to extend the contract after judging that the youngster had not done enough to merit a new deal.

During his short time with the first team, Thompson failed to make an appearance but did make the bench on three occasions.

Speaking yesterday, Manager Alan Knill said:

“David has gone and I am more disappointed for him. We gave him six months because we felt that he really needed to push himself and to show us that he was worth the contract, and in our opinion – he hasn’t really done that.”

“I expect people to be enthusiastic all the time, especially the young players. They are trying to get a career and if they are not like that then I find it disappointing. We all thought that we never saw that from David so it’s disappointing for everyone.”
