Rovers Fly High

Doncaster Rovers at RAF Cottesmore

Doncaster Rovers Youth Team squad were flying high after a recent visit to the RAF station at Cottesmore.

The squad, under the supervision of Youth Team Manager Paul Wilson, spent the day at the East Midlands base with Officers and demonstration teams.

The Club have close links with RAF Cottesmore and utilise the station as a valuable resource to support their Apprentice players and enable them to grasp the opportunities available to them within the Royal Air Force.

The day began with a tour around the station taking in the gymnasium, aircraft hangars and the flight control tower. The Apprentices delighted in the opportunity to take a seat in an RAF Harrier jet, well known for their vertical takeoff and landing.

Team activities

The Apprentices rounded off the day with exercises designed to test their team abilities with the help of highly skilled Officers.

Paul Wilson, Youth Team Manager said:

“We arranged this trip for the Apprentices to give them the chance to look at alternative careers. We have good links with RAF Cottesmore and the day gives the lads a chance to think about a career away from football.”

He continued:

“Andrew Hawksworth was released from Doncaster this summer and we’re proud to say he has now joined the RAF after a similar visit. It’s good to see the boys taking real value from the day.”
