Rochdale Take Leap of Faith

Chris Beech, Youth Team Coach

Rochdale’s Youth Team will be making a leap of faith on Good Friday when they take part in a 90ft charity abseil down Canal Mill at Botany Bay to raise vital funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Youth Team Coach Chris Beech, whose six year old son suffers from CF, originally signed up to do the fundraising abseil in Chorley but now his squad are all behind the event.

The former Blackpool and Huddersfield Town midfielder said,

“The lads, through captain George Bowyer, thought it would be a great team-building exercise. They also see it as an opportunity to raise money and awareness of Cystic Fibrosis so I’m delighted they are all getting involved.”

CF is the UK’s most common life-threatening inherited disease and all money raised by the abseil will help fund research into treating and curing CF. It will also help provide support, advice and appropriate clinical care to the 8,000 babies, children and young adults with CF in the UK.

Beechy added,

“My son Brandon was four when he was diagnosed with CF and it was a huge shock. The staff who care for Brandon at Royal Preston Hospital do an absolutely fantastic job so I just want to raise as much money and awareness as possible.”

For details of how to sponsor Beechy and the squad, please contact Rochdale’s Press Officer Mike Brookes on 0844 826 1907.
