FA Youth Cup Quarter Final

FA Youth Cup: Norwich City v Manchester City

Norwich City’s Youth team bowed out of the FA Youth Cup on Saturday at Eastlands, beaten 1 – 0 at the quarter-final stage by holders Manchester City.

The Citizens progressed thanks to a 20th minute Robbie Mark strike but were made to work for their victory by a determined Norwich side who should have taken the game in to extra time.

With the game appearing to be heading beyond the Canaries, they were handed a 79th minute lifeline when Tom Adeyemi was brought down in the box by City substitute Omar Elabdellaoui.

Nick Davey stepped up for the pressure spot-kick, but agonisingly blasted his effort high over the crossbar.

As the minutes ticked by Adeyemi briefly threatened the City goal with a dangerous, dipping strike, but the home side held on to reach the semi-finals.

Manchester City now go on to play Arsenal in the semi finals after they disposed of Tottenham Hotspur in a pulsating North London derby at White Hart Lane.

Birmingham City and Watford will now hope to emulate the Gunners and book their place in the semi’s when they clash at St Andrews next Monday night.

FA Youth Cup Semi-finals (two legged):

  • Manchester City v Arsenal
  • Liverpool v Birmingham City/Watford
