Another Winning Team

YMCAfit, Fitness First, The PFA and LFE have combined to produce an all new winning team in support of Football League Apprentices and their exit and progression from the ASE programme.

Earlier this month both YMCAfit and Fitness First signed up as LFE Progression Partners, a scheme which is designed to provide alternative or complementary career pathways for Apprentices completing the ASE programme at the same time as providing leading employers, education establishments and training organisations with talented and dedicated individuals from a professional sporting background.

Although as individual organisations YMCAfit and Fitness First are excellent Progression Partners, it is the strength of a combined Progression Programme that has been devised which offers true value to Apprentices.

The new Progression Programme, which went live this week, will see Apprentices who registered an interest in becoming an employee of the fitness industry during LFE’s tracking and monitoring programme invited to attend a free of charge Assessment Day on 18th November at a Fitness First site in Chesterfield.

Here the fitness industry hopefuls will be assessed by Fitness First for suitability for employment as a Gym Instructor in one of their centres and if successful will then undertake a level 2 Gym Instructor qualification delivered by YMCAfit.

Should the chosen ones successfully complete the qualification Fitness First will guarantee an interview and employment at a centre most appropriate to where the Apprentice lives.

The course will be delivered across 10 days in January 2009, again held at the Chesterfield residential facility with final assessments a month later meaning by February 2009 a host of new instructors will be hitting the gym floors.

There is a cost associated to undertaking the programme and this is where The PFA Education department has made a massive contribution by confirming that subject to being a PFA member and making an application, 50% of the course costs will be reimbursed.

Not only this but YMCAfit have offered the course at a discounted rate and Fitness First have further helped the financial burden by allowing some costs to be paid back through wage deductions once in employment.
