League Football Education Signs Up To Mental Health Charter

League Football Education Signs Up To Mental Health Charter

To mark this year’s World Mental Health Day, League Football Education is signing up to the Mental Health Charter for Sport and Recreation. The initiative has been launched by the Sport and Recreation Alliance, the Professional Players Federation and EFL’s charity partner Mind.

By signing up to the charter, League Football Education makes three commitments to help create a culture shift and remove stigmas around mental health.

Building on from LFE’s club meetings last May, for which emotional well-being took centre stage, this is further commitment to the cause with LFE recognising the need to further support academy players and staff with information, guidance and practical support.

LFE continues to work effectively with If U Care Share and the Sporting Chance Clinic to provide education and preventative measures as well as signposting to The PFA-funded well-being hotline.

The PFA and LFE joined forces during September to ensure apprentices across the country registered for use of the Safety Net, a bespoke mental health support tool for footballers.

Other recent activities have seen The PFA deliver a second annual mental health conference ‘Injured 2’ to the football fraternity and If U Care Share’s Matthew Smith helped successfully instigate the appointment of the first minister for suicide prevention as a result of his petition signed by 393,117 supporters calling for government action.

In conjunction with the EFL, LFE is dedicated to continue making positive steps to raise awareness and help ensure that no one tackles a mental health problem alone.
