‘Young players need to play’ Insists Coventry Boss, Pressley

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley insists that his policy of developing young players in the first-team will be crucial to retaining many of the club’s younger players.

“The one thing you need as a young player is to play games,” said Pressley.

“Too many young players want to make the step before they are actually ready, and many of our players have to play not just games, but consecutive games, and they’re getting their chance here and we believe in them here.

“I think we have created the right environment and they’re improving.

“When it’s the right time and if they’re ready to play at the highest level and it’s not here then we wouldn’t stand in their way but I hope it’s here because keeping the team together can enable us to – in time – make the steps forward required.”
