Canaries Swoop For Ipswich Teen Gibbs

Ipswich Town youngster Liam Gibbs has made the switch to nearby rivals Norwich City after the Premier League newcomers paid an undisclosed fee to secure his services.

The 18-year-old, who has signed a professional contract that runs until the summer of 2025, was instrumental in Ipswich’s terrific run to the FA Youth Cup semi-final, netting once and claiming two assists in five appearances before their unfortunate final four defeat to Liverpool.

Gibbs had previously captained the club at Under-15 and Under-16 level, and represented the first team on four occasions, with three outings in the EFL Trophy before a Sky Bet League One start against Charlton Athletic in November.

Gibbs told the Canaries website: “I am very, very excited. I am looking forward to starting my journey as soon as possible. It is a new step for me and for my career. I am looking to make the most of it, showcase my talent and hopefully I can help the club keep moving forward.

“I have seen young players in the past that have gone through the academy and into the first team. Norwich have a reputation for bringing through young players and I just want to be the next one to get into the first team and make things happen.

“I can see a clear pathway for me. Now I am just excited to get started, fulfil my potential and show everyone what I can do.”
