Young Defender Jones Pens Fleetwood Pro

Fleetwood Town have announced that U18s defender Billy Jones has signed his first professional contract with the Fylde coast club.

Jones has flourished for the U18s this season and his impressive displays haven’t gone unnoticed. He put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal on his 18th birthday (Wednesday).

He’s also been involved with the first-team this season, featuring on the bench for both of Fleetwood’s trips to Sheffield Wednesday in League One, and the FA Cup respectively.

Jack Higgins, Head of Academy said: “I am really pleased for Billy to see him sign his first professional contract. He’s come on leaps and bounds since joining us from Everton as a 16-year-old and has overcome some injuries in his time at the club.

“He came in as a central midfielder and he now finds himself as a full-back. His versatility to play both right and left back is a positive alongside many of his attributes which makes him a difficult opponent to play against.

“He will be joining Fleetwood Town’s Under-21s next season, pushing himself against other professional players, looking to gain more opportunities with the first team if he conducts himself in the right manner.”
